At the meeting of the Standing Committee of the Provincial Grand Charity held at Derby on 31st July 2003 the following grants were approved :- 

bullet

£800 to the Padley Group towards a drop-in centre for homeless people in Derby, to be added to a donation of £1,200 made jointly by Littleover Lodge and the Lodge of Repose.

bullet

£189 to the Buxton Hospital League of Friends, to support a donation made by the Phoebux Golf Society following a golf competition for members of Buxton Lodges.

bullet

A Lodge widow was added to the Seasonal Relief list which provides financial support at Christmas and birthdays. (If your Lodge has a widow who you believe requires help and is not receiving Seasonal Relief please notify Graham Sisson who will be pleased to advise).

The Masonic Music Foundation made grants to the following organisations:

The Music Melting Pot. £5,000 to support a Derbyshire Police initiative to assist young people in the Chesterfield area who have had drug-related problems, to learn musical skills. 

bullet

Viva Orchestra. £1,000 towards a musical event involving 1,000 children from inner-city schools in Derby. 

bullet

Kinder Children’s Choirs. £1,500 to assist with the second of a three-year educational project in High Peak schools. 

bullet

A Major Grant of £48,000 was approved to fund the purchase of a Crusader ambulance in Ashbourne in memory of Harold Litchfield, whose bequest within the Provincial Charity will meet the cost. 

Other News:

The Provincial Grand Treasurer, W. Bro. Eric Mitchell, reported that additional funds towards the RMTGB Festival had been received since the Festival took place, and that they would be credited to the total. The Provincial Charity Steward, W. Bro. John Renshaw advised Lodge Charity Stewards to limit their contributions to their Lodges’ previous commitments. He also undertook to produce a revised summary of Lodge donations which you will find in the next edition of the Derbyshire Circle.

 

The Provincial Almoner, W. Bro. Brian Carter, reported that the appointment of the two Assistant Almoners (reported in April) had proved effective, with contacts now established with every Almoner in the Province.

 

The Secretary, W. Bro.Graham Sisson, reported that the R.W. Provincial Grand Master had approved the two nominations for support by the 2003 Carol Service, namely Cavendish Sensory Garden, Buxton, and the Alfreton Parkwood Special School. Please ensure that your Lodge pays over the proceeds of the sale of Carol Sheets as soon as they have been sold, to enable early payment of the grants.
