The Provincial Grand Charity sets aside funds to support a
number of large projects each year. A recent example is the donation of £10,000
to assist in teaching drug awareness in Derbyshire schools, by means of a mobile
touring unit known as the Life Education Centre.
We were also a significant contributor to the Sailability
project, which was started in 1998 to modify Swarkestone quayside, and to
provide new boats for disabled children. Our £1,600 gift bought a specially
adapted boat called the Derbyshire Freemason, and this was handed over in the
summer of 2000.
There are also numerous other small donations for specific
local public and personal needs which are not publicised, but which make a huge
difference to people with problems or who are in short-term need.
At the meeting held in
February 2001, around £3,500 was given in small
amounts to worthy causes.
