Assistant Provincial Grand Master 
Peter Hodcroft

 

Peter Hodcroft became Assistant Provincial Grand Master in 2007, following previous appointments in the Province of Provincial Grand Steward in 1993, Assistant Provincial Grand Secretary in 1997 and Provincial Grand Secretary in 1999, a post he held for five years.  He received the rank of Past Provincial Junior Grand Warden in 1999 and Past Assistant Grand Director of Ceremonies in United Grand Lodge in 2001. 

His Masonic career began when he was initiated into Lodge of St. John No. 8070 at Belper in 1974. He acted as Lodge Secretary from 1983 to 1985 and became Worshipful Master in 1987.  

He became the Founding Secretary of Bradelei Lodge No. 9205 in 1986, a post he held for twelve years, following which he became Worshipful Master in 2001. He joined the Derbyshire Lodge of Installed Masters No. 8509 in 1989 and progressed to the Chair in 2006. 


Peter was exalted into Beaureper Chapter No. 787 in March 1978 and became First Principal in 1989. Provincial honours followed when he was appointed Provincial Assistant Director of Ceremonies in 1991 and promoted to Provincial Scribe Nehemiah in 1996. He served as Assistant Provincial Scribe Ezra from 1997 to 1999, following which he became Provincial Scribe Ezra until 2006. He received the Supreme Grand Chapter rank of Past Grand Standard Bearer in 2000. 

Peter is a busy Mason being a member of a number of other Orders, having achieved senior appointments in each. He was appointed Vice-Chairman of the Provincial Grand Charity in 2006, a position he still holds. 

His career outside Freemasonry was that of a heating engineer from which he is now retired.

Bill’s Masonic career began in the West Riding Province where he was initiated into Nevil-Talbot Lodge No. 4092 in 1973 and reached the Chair in 1985.  

Following his Exaltation into Chantrey Chapter at Dore in 1979 he began to pursue his Derbyshire career by becoming a Founder Member of Sure and Stedfast Lodge in 1984, assuming the Chair in 1987.

He was appointed Provincial Grand Standard Bearer in 1994, Provincial Senior Grand Warden in 1994 and Provincial Grand Director of Ceremonies in 1996, an office he only relinquished on his appointment as Assistant Provincial Grand Master in 2005. He received Grand Lodge honours in 1997 with the appointment to Past Assistant Grand Director of Ceremonies.  

He reached the First Principal’s chair in Chantrey Chapter in 1991 and was appointed as Provincial Assistant Grand Director of Ceremonies in 1996 and promoted to Past Provincial Grand Sword Bearer in 2000.  

He is a member of several other Orders in both Derbyshire and the West Riding provinces.
