companionship to the lonely. This may well be required at a time and in
circumstances quite inconvenient to the Almoner. |

A sharp brain and tact to discuss sensitive matters
with embarrassed people too proud to readily admit needing money or any other

Persistence to continue where the need for help is
perceived, and a willingness to involve someone else who for reasons of age,
sex or just remoteness, may be able to help in that instance. |

An understanding, (with perhaps a register or filing
system) of where to go for the type of assistance needed at that time. |

The ability to obtain and prepare applications for
help so that they are most likely to succeed. |

System and tenacity to monitor the progress (or lack
of it) of all current items. |
