What are ladies evenings?
They are social events where Masons, Ladies and
non-Masons have a good time. They vary in style from lodge to lodge but usually
take the form of a formal dinner and dance.
The host is the Master of the lodge and the guest of
honour is the Master's partner. During the evening, a solo male singer directs
the 'Lady's Flower Song', or something similar, to the Worshipful Master's lady,
whilst presenting her with a bouquet - quite a moving and memorable moment.
These evenings form an important revenue for charity
and are enjoyed by both Masons and non-Masons.
As well as promoting openness by encouraging non-Masons
to attend, they are also a good way to introduce potential candidates and their
partners to other Masons and Masonic traditions.
