On 15th February 2001, the Right Worshipful Brother David Law, Provincial Grand Master, visited the Derby Headquarters of the Marie Curie organisation to present a cheque for £5,000. This completes a total donation to Marie Curie of £10,000 which was agreed by the Provincial Grand Charity last summer.

The donation is in support of an appeal launched by the Lord Lieutenant of Derbyshire aimed at doubling the number of hours provided by Marie Curie nurses throughout the county. The aim of the charity is to provide nursing support to patients who are terminally ill with cancer. This support is provided in the home mainly at night to give some respite for the patients' relatives.

On hand to receive the cheque were the chairman of the Derbyshire Branch, the committee member liaising with the Provincial Grand Charity, and the Nurse Team Leader, who has just been nominated as a candidate for the Marie Curie Nurse of the Year Award. The Provincial Grand Master was accompanied by a member of the Petitions Sub-Committee.
