History:
Prior to 1890 there had been no Masonic Lodge nearer than Chesterfield for
the Brethren who lived at Dore, in the North Eastern part of the Province of
Derbyshire.
Major William Boden, PM, P.P.J.G.W., a member of the Royal
Sussex Lodge No. 353, called a meeting of Masonic Brethren living in the
Dore district for 23rd January 1890. It was held in a house on Dore New Road,
and was attended by:

Bro. Jowett of the Old Dundee Lodge 18 and Bro.
Walter Tyzack 1779 were unable to attend, but wrote promising support to the
formation of a Lodge.
W.Bro. Boden read the correspondence between himself W. Bro. William Naylor,
the Provincial Grand Secretary of Derbyshire regarding the proposed formation of
a Lodge, and it was agreed on the motion of W. Bro. Boden that it was desirable
to establish a Freemasons' Lodge at Dore. The motion was seconded by W. Bro.
Styring and approved by the Brethren present. A further meeting was arranged.
W.Bro. Boden proposed that the Lodge be named Chantrey
Lodge in commemoration of Sir Francis Chantrey, R.A., who was born in the
district on the 7th April, 1781.
The Lodge was consecrated on July 30th 1890 by the Right Worshipful Bro. H.C.
Okeover, D.P.G. Master, P.J.G.W. of England and officers of the Provincial
Grand Lodge of Derbyshire, in the Lodge Room at Dore, of which we are
still in possession.
From the date of the Consecration until 1926 the Lodge Room and one cottage
were rented from the Licensed Victuallers Benevolent Trust at a yearly rental of
£43. Such progress had been made during the period that extensions and
improvements were necessary, and one more cottage and extensions to both
cottages were made at a cost of £1.848. The Licensed Victuallers Benevolent
Trust contributed £900 and granted a lease for 20 years with an option for a
further ten years at a yearly rental of £115, the Chantrey
Lodge remaining the tenant, the new Lodges being sub-tenants.
